Contributed by Terri Scungio of Williamsburg, VA, these biscuits are a delightful twist on the classic sausage variety. "I usually make these biscuits with sausage, but recently I tried country ham instead...everyone loved them," she shares.
To prepare the biscuits, begin by adding flour to a bowl. Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut in 1/2 cup of butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the cooked ham and shredded sharp Cheddar cheese. Next, add the buttermilk and stir with a fork until a moist dough forms. Using a heaping teaspoonful, drop the dough onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 13 minutes, or until lightly golden. Finally, melt the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter and brush it over the hot biscuits.
